Vettel gets pole in Malaysia
The Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday seems set for an exciting race, with Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel set to lock horns with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton after the pair posted qualifying times a mere 0.174 seconds apart. It was Vettel who posted pole position, but only after he had to use his previously unreliable KERS kinetic energy booster pack to beat Hamilton’s time.
Third spot went to Australian Mark Webber in the second Red Bull, with Hamilton’s teammate Jenson Button fourth.
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso could only manage fifth, with Nick Heidfeld making a return to form in sixth spot in his first season with Renault as a stand-in for the injured Robert Kubica.
The second Ferrari of Felipe Massa was seventh, with Vitaly Petrov eighth in the other Renault ahead of Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes and Kamui Kobayashi’s Sauber.
Multiple world champion Michael Schumacher just failed to make the top 10 cut in his Mercedes, and will start 11th.
